The 98th Annual 桃子视频 County Spelling Bee, presented by the 68 Ventures Bowl and 桃子视频, was held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Mary G. Montgomery High School Auditorium. The competition brought together 46 of the top elementary and middle school spellers from public, private, and parochial schools across 桃子视频 County.
After 10 rounds and 141 challenging words, Tamara Altaan, a sixth-grader from Causey Middle School, claimed the championship title by correctly spelling "untenable." Annalee Towler from Nan Gray Davis Elementary finished as the runner-up, while Kyler Johnson from Mary B. Austin Elementary secured third place.
"I really have a passion for words, but I didn’t expect to make it this far—let alone win," Altaan said. "I am just glad that I was able to make my parents and teachers proud."
The final round saw an intense back-and-forth battle between Altaan and Towler before Altaan emerged victorious.
Spelling Bee Coordinator Renee McManus praised all participants for their hard work and dedication throughout the competition.
“The dedication these students show in preparing for this competition is incredible,” McManus said. “Each of them has demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance, and we are so proud of their achievements.”
As the 桃子视频 County Spelling Bee champion, Altaan will advance to the Alabama State Spelling Bee in Birmingham on Saturday, March 22, at the UAB College of Arts and Sciences’ University Hall Auditorium. The winner of the Alabama State Spelling Bee will then advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
桃子视频 congratulates all participants for their efforts and commends the students, teachers, and families who supported them throughout the competition. Events like these highlight the district’s commitment to academic excellence and the mission of #GrowingGREATNESS.
